Gracias y Adios 2014, Beinvenido 2015 !!

For benefit of all, the subject line means (as you may have guessed) Thank you and Bye-bye 2014, Welcome 2015!!

New Year around the corner...

With new year come the new year resolution. Many say that you make resolutions to break :) How true is that? Do you always fail at all resolutions you decide or do you also make through some? What are the reasons they dont happen? Is it like you were too ambitious or is it that you never gave it a thought as to how will you execute it?

Whatever resolutions you made for 2014 (and if you remember by the fag end of the year ;) ) did you manage to check box some? If yes, what were those??

Have you made some for 2015? Mind sharing those? :)

One of my favorite things:

A few plans for this week:

Why me, God?

Most of us believe, at least on some level, that we need to understand everything. We just need to know why. When we don't, we may feel God has betrayed us in some way. In reality, it's not God who is confusing us or betraying us, it is our belief system. All those inconsistent, partially correct beliefs cause us to question God's fairness in what we are experiencing. For example, somewhere in our belief system, we may have come to believe that we deserve to be blessed because we have been diligent to honor God, been a good person, fed the hungry, or helped our neighbor. We often believe that the things we do should keep us from harm's way. Then when something bad happens, we are confused and ask God why.
Why Me, God? - Changing our Thinking
When something happens that deeply touches us, we often ask, "Why me, God?" We are quick to judge the event as good or bad. What if we were to eliminate the possibility that anything that happens to us is inherently bad and choose to believe that everything that happens to us is always good? Impossible, you say? It has to be one or the other, doesn't it?

Belief systems are changeable. When we discover that something we have believed, even for a long time, is no longer valid, can we not simply change our mind and fully embrace the new? If you are crying out "Why me, God?" you must believe there is a God out there who hears you and you have hoped He would answer you. Maybe there was a time when you didn't believe there was a God at all. If you changed your mind and opened your life to God, then you can also change your mind about judging events as being bad for you.

When we choose to believe that ALL the events in our life are good for us, even the ones that seem frustrating and painful for now.

Our new dialogue should be, "God, this is going to be an interesting journey. I'm excited to see how you are going to bring good out of this one. I trust you will!"

Soul-mate

Do you believe in Soul-mate? What is it OR who is S/He? Does everyone have a soul-mate?

Below is the definition, but have any one of you experienced or can define this more realistically?

Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we're two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we've found the right person.
– Richard Bach
By that logic do all of us just say that our respective spouses are our soul-mates or is there more to it?

Harmful effects of tight fitting clothes

  • Skinny Jeans, Tight Pants and Digestive Issues

Tight clothing that pushes into the abdomen, everything from jeans to belts and compression undergarments, can be problematic, "particularly and especially when somebody overeats,"
Pressure on the stomach, known as intragastric pressure or intra-abdominal pressure, can trigger acid reflux — pushing stomach acid back up through the lower esophageal junction, where the esophagus and the stomach meet, causing heartburn.
Acid reflux is common, and not just for older adults, according to Dr. Koufman, who says about 37 percent of the 20 to 30-year-old age group gets it. Even someone who isn't prone to acid reflux can develop reflux if they wear a tight article of clothing often over a two-week period, she says. Snug-fitting corset-style shirts can have a similar effect.

Cosmopolitan

You must have read Cosmo once in a while..sometimes. It is pretty decent, straight-forward magazines. One of my friends had been collecting the magazines to be given to her daughter once she turned a teen. (Or matured enough to understand the content correctly)

Do you think that is a good idea?

Watching Animals in Zoo

Somehow I have never enjoyed watching animals in zoo...in cage. We used to have lot of picnics in school and as family outing to zoos (Bondla being the fav) and any other city that we would go as tourist also had zoo as one of the items.
I never really approved of that. I enjoyed the family and picnic part of it...but not seeing those animals in that condition.
Many people believe you should see animals as rare species and like we visit museum to see antics...something similar is ZOO..Really???
If you want to add it as curiosity factor for your child....you always have encyclopedia, documentaries on TV and CD's to introduce them. Moreover if you still want real animal feel, you can watch them in safari.....where you are in cage and they as free animals in their habitat :)

What are the other takes on this?

Gold as an investment option

Before proceeding further let us answer a basic question in our mind. Why to invest in gold? Should I invest in gold? Is gold a good investment option?
It is your hard earned money. So you need to answer these questions before investing in gold. Why do people invest in Gold? What are all the benefits of investing in gold?
There are 2 primary reasons why you need to invest in gold.
  • Investing money in gold is worth because it is a hedge against inflation. Over a period of time, the return on gold investment is in line with the rate of inflation.
  • It is worth investing in gold for a one more very valid reason. That is gold is negatively correlated to equity investments.
The above 2 points could have given some answers to your question “Is buying gold a good investment?”
Return on gold investment
Is it profitable to invest in gold?
This investment proved remarkable from 2006 to 2011.During that time span Gold has given average return of 29% per annum which was any day better than other investment options.
However, the long term average return on gold investment is less than 10% p.a.
As one can say technically or ironically but history always repeats itself. Therefore, we may once again observe the similar less than 10% appreciation pattern in gold prices in near future.
Still, if you want to invest in Gold and cannot resist yourself from the temptation then these are few tips on how to invest in gold correctly!
1) Jewellery buying
Our age-old and traditional way of investment is jewellery buying where one can buy gold ornaments, bars or coins. However, it has its own disadvantages, total buying cost involves heavy making charges (it can be 10 to 20% of total cost). However, when you try to sell the same piece to same jeweler, he will buy it below market rates and deduct those making charges from the total price of your jewel.
2) Investment in Gold coins and bars
Investment in gold coins and bars is also a better option over jewel buying. You need to decide on ‘Where to buy gold coins or bars?”. You should buy gold bars and coins only from jeweler. Banks also sell gold coins or bars. Then why do we advocate for buying god bars and coins from jewelers? To answer this question you ask yourself “How to sell gold coins or bars?” or “Where to sell gold coins in India?”

Banks sell gold coins and bars, but they cannot buy it back. Whereas, the jewelers can buy back the gold coins from you.

Etiquette's

From childhood we have been taught the importance of etiquette's. During course of our growing up, we sometimes forget what we were taught or had adapted. We also make our own behavioral approach which we assume to be a "good manner".

Very recently I was part of the group (5 members) at the lunch table. I know 1 or 2 people but rest were relatively unknown to me. The conversation at the table for most of the time was about the topics/people totally unknown to me. I had no background or clue about the conversation they were having. It was not appropriate on my part to to ask them..who..what..how..when types questions. But then I got thinking, as good manners when we have a new member joining the group, it is essential that we make the person feel comfortable and talk of common topics that all may be able to participate and share their views on.

One etiquette added!

Layers beyond the obvious.

I had again an opportunity to catch a glimpse of Marathi serial Honaar sunn mi hya gharchi. And again there was an interesting message. This time the male lead explains a story to his wife.

He says as a kid he was one day playing in garden and he saw a crow sitting close to his puppy. Fearing that crow may hurt the puppy, he throws a small stone expecting the crow to fly off. But crow does not. This behavior takes him aback thinking how adamant the crow can be. He is not afraid of a boy shoo him away and neither afraid of stone hitting him....what attitude is that?
So agitated he says he picked a bigger stone to hit him...just then the gardener came and said dont throw that at the crow, he is injured and unable to fly. That day he says he learnt a lesson..

We sometimes assume or make a perception upon seeing what is visible to us. But then that is not the ultimate truth. There are layers beyond the obvious.
