MY JOURNAL - 31

WELL..THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE MY LAST QUESTION IN THE JOURNAL SERIES. IT WAS INDEED PLEASURE COMING UP WITH THESE QUESTIONS AS IT WAS LEARNING FOR ME AS WELL..MOST OF THE QUESTIONS MADE ME THINK AND I AM HOPEFUL BY THE END OF THE YEAR, I WILL HAVE LOT MORE CLARITY ...THANKS TO THE JOURNAL :)

HERE IS YOUR QUESTION:
Most of you might have heard this marathi saying" Jawai mulga hoto pan Sunn mulgi hot naahi aani saasu aai hot naahi" [Translate in English: Son-in-law can easily be accepted as son but daughter-in-law cannot be accepted easily as Daughter just the way mother-in-law cannot be like your own mother]
WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THIS SAYING? DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS SUNN AND AS SAASU :)

RAINY DAY...

It has been pouring since yesterday.. I had a very busy day yesterday and so could not do justice to the weather..

For me rainy season is a perfect season to be at home and to enjoy the indoors. Feel cozy; relish a hot cup of tea and a little time to do what you enjoy doing which is not your routine but, just some “me time” for yourself.

Get up and get those precious moments. Enjoy the rains and the serene feel that it brings with it.

If I am given a choice and if I am alone, I would love to light some scented candles..

Candlelight

And sit with a book read or write something

or just listen to music (old Hindi songs)

while I watch the rain dropping down.

Rain

What is your idea of a perfect rainy day at home? .

MY JOURNAL 28

Each one of us have tips and tricks in our daily life which make our daily living a little effortless.
lets share with each other those little things that make our day effortless.

28: WRITE SOME (as many as you want) THINGS THAT MAKE YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE  EFFORTLESS OR A LITTLE BIT SIMPLER .

You can give tips that help us in homemaking, or you at work like some organizational tips..

There are certain things that you wish were not the way they are and it would have made life easier
Like I feel I should not go on buying magazines and not feel like discarding them , adding to the clutter and off-course adding to my day to day cleaning and organizing.

I feel keeping your daily "must take " to office or college/school in one place in the living room , helps in avoiding a lot of chaos in the morning.

As parents we are always giving our kids certain lessons of life..

My question for today is

28: HAS YOUR CHILD TAUGHT YOU SOMETHING?

HAS HE/SHE KNOWINGLY OR UNKNOWINGLY MADE YOU LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT LIVING AND LIFE.

A BEAUTIFUL QUOTE...

Believe in Yourself

SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL ....

What HE SAYS and What HE actually MEANS....

Read this article in Times yesterday, thought it was powerful to be discussed here. So typing out the crux of the article. Below are the lines used in relationship between man & woman. Scott Milnes decodes:

1) Its not YOU, its ME....
What it means: I think I deserve better or we both deserve better...
Why is it used: It tries to ease the blow of hurting the person. Essentially it like things not working out for                               us.
What Next: Your partner is just not into you anymore..but does not have the courage to say so...let go

2) I love you but sometimes Love is not enough.....
What it means: I am seeking more excitement and passion....
Why is it used: There is phase of boredom already in the relationship
What Next: Your partner is too weeny anyways and does not find you exciting. It is alright & normal

3) I am not ready for a relationship OR Give me some time....
What it means: I am not ready for a relationship ---with you. Or I need to be convinced if this is worth
Why is it used: Relationship that is moving too fast..emotionally or physically unsettles them.
What Next: Give Your partner the time...it may reverse....hopefully

4) May be we should see other people...
What it means: I need to look at other options as well and not feel guilty doing it behind your back
Why is it used: They are hoping that you do not see others and if they do not meet the right, they can still                                come back to you.
What Next: Let your partner see others, chances are they already are. You deserve better too.

1) I need SPACE....
What it means: You are suffocating me and I need to focus on someone else OR some goal..
Why is it used: You have really driven this person to walls and he/she doesnt want to invest in you
What Next: Your partner create out space for someone else and in return appreciate you for what you                              are.

When you accept things, things gets manageable. You cannot dictate if you want to be in someone's life, that someone has to allow you to be part of his/her life. Your behavior should be such that person WANTS you in their life.

Dear Senoritas,

Madhavi and Reshma - thanks for coming up with mind racking questions - But dear all can we have a lot of interaction of views and counter views and lets not just comment and finish it ? Madhavi and Reshma your views on the questions you put forward are also required. Lets us have some brainstorming sessions.

MY JOURNAL 22

Here is my question for the day and for your Journal

22:   If you see a gift on your table, with your name on it ,what would you hope it would be??
Will that always be your gift of choice or it depends on that day and moment?

RAVA PANCAKES..

I am going to share recipes which I find interesting and which are quick to cook for our kids . These recipes are found while browsing on the net or just your own experiments in the kitchen.
These are the recipes which I have tried and tested and I know will taste great..
If you have any recipe like these please do share , this will help us make HEALTHY AND QUICK recipes for our kids ..

RECIPES SHOULD BE SIMPLE, HEALTHY AND QUICK.

Here is one such recipe which we can make with everyday ingredients , with little time at hand..

A quick and simple snack option—you just need to soak the semolina for 30 minutes, and you’re all set to make pancakes without the hassles of grinding. I’ve added cabbage, carrot etc. To the semolina pancakes. You can feel free to add other grated veggies too, if you wish.

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups semolina (rava)
3/4 cup fresh curds (dahi)
1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
1/2 cup grated carrot
1/4 cup finely chopped coriander (dhania)
1 tbsp finely chopped green chillies
salt to taste
2 tsp fruit salt
4 tsp oil

For Serving
Method
1.      Combine the semolina, curds and 1 cup of water in a bowl, mix well and allow it to soak for 30 minutes.
2.    Add the cabbage, carrot, coriander, green chilies and salt and mix well.
3.     Just before making the pancakes, add the fruit salt and 2 tbsp of water to the batter.
4.    When the bubbles form, mix gently.
5.     Add 2 tsp of oil and mix gently.
6.     Grease a non-stick mini uttapa pan using a little oil.
7.     Pour approximately 1½ tbsp of batter in each uttapa mold and spread it lightly.
8.     Cook using a little oil, till they turn crisp and golden brown from both the sides.
9.     Repeat steps 7 and 8 to make one more batch of mini pancakes.
10.                        Serve immediately with coconut chutney.

You can always change the vegetables added or just leave them out.
I would prefer if the dahi is a little sour , so when you have some leftover dahi which the family does not want to consume please make this for breakfast
I also add a little rice flour to the above mixture .. I love the sticky feel . Rava gives it a little grainy texture .. pls try this and put in your comments for us to add or delete in the recipe.

PLEASE PUT IN ONLY THOSE WHICH HAVE BEEN TRIED AND ARE GREAT ....

Angarika - its meaning and concept of Fasting

 Dear All,

I am sharing with you what I was told and what I took effort to find out about "UPWAS" or Fasting concept. Incidentally it all started with Angarika - so giving origin of that as well. Please note, this is what I have learnt and with due respect to religion I do not have any copyright on the subject ;)

Angarak is the son of  Dharini and Bharadwaj and was great devotee of Ganapati. With kathor parishram he won boon from Ganapati. He said his only wish was to be associated with Ganesha’s name for forever. His wish was granted on Magh Krishna Chaturthi (the day was Tuesday). So Sankasthi on Tuesdays is referred to as  Angarika Chaturthi (after his name) and those who pray and fast on this day will be granted all that he/ she prays for. People normally fast from morning till evening. Post chandroday, Ganapati puja/stotra is recited and naivaidya offered and all can have the meal. Modak being his fav, they are typically made.

Now coming to ideology behind fasting:
I was told by my grandmothers that fasting is done so that one can focus well on dev-bhakti. Women folks would be toiling everyday to make food right from scratch. Today's times we have so many gadgets and facilities available which were not there in olden days. Hence to at least relieve customary food preparations they designed the fast and depended on making simpler single dish like sabudana khichdi, fruits, kand-mula, vari et al. These items give you the necessary energy to keep you going for the day. Also too much eating and tiring would not keep alert mind for praying. Hence all the fasts that were derived were with these intentions.

Now about the scientific approach - fast as all know is form of detox. It gives respite to your system and enhances cleaning and circulation process. There are certain rules while on fasts. Things like Limbu sarbat is allowed on fast as Lemon acts as acid barrier and clears flatulence. (Sabudana), underground roots (Potato, sweet potato). cucumber, fruits are permitted as it has essential satva yet easy to digest. But having said that, you cant have 2-3 plates of khichdi since you are fasting. Many times you hear people say I do not do upwas as it causes acidity eating peanuts. If had in proper portion, peanuts are very healthy source of protein and HDL.

This is what I know of and if there are more views, please add.
